When most people think of a Mornington Peninsua wedding, visions of a warm sunny day, white wine and dreamy beachy/winery venues comes to mind! Did you know that no matter what the session, the Mornington Peninsula is a stunning spot for a winter wedding.

Hot tips for winter weddings

I personally think the Mornington Peninsula is absolutely fabulous in winter. Less crowds, really beautiful light that’s perfect for photos and cosy evenings with delicious red wine. Mmmmm.

So you’re thinking of a winter wedding? Marvellous!! Here are some hot tips:

  1. Choose a venue that’s perfect for an indoor ceremony. Beautiful winter days ARE a thing, however you don’t want to be banking on it.
  2. Keep in mind that the sun sets A LOT earlier in winter so your photos will possibly be before your ceremony.
  3. Still book your accomodation (if needed) well in advance and encourage your guests to do the same.
  4. Get yourself a fabulous coat to wear or choose a long sleeved outfit! Your photos will be adorable.
  5. Go with it and embrace it! It’s going to be fabulous.

Things you need to know about your photos

Sunset

Sunset photos are stunning, especially in winter! The hour before sunset is golden hour and that’s when you’re going to get dreamy golden light. In winter, that’s super early and something to factor in with your ceremony.

You have some options..

Get your family photos before your ceremony

Usually after your ceremony you would have your family, wedding party and couples portraits. In winter, you might not have the light available to do that so we do it a little differently!

An option is to do a first look with each other. A first look is where you see each other for the first time BEFORE your ceremony and I capture the beautiful and often emotional moment.

After this you could also get your family photos! So after your ceremony the only photos left are your wedding party and sunset photos.

Wet weather plan

A wet weather plan is a must in ANY season, but especially winter. Some back up plan ideas to decrease any stress about rrraaiiiiinnnn on your wedding day (🎶 please read this in Alanis Morissettes voice).

Get a beautiful air BnB to get ready at so if the weather is foul you can have your first look and family photos inside! A back up option could also be to have your wedding party photos here so any break in the rain after the ceremony is just for the the two of you.

We can scope out some cool indoor spots around your venue so that’s something to keep in mind!

Buy some clear umbrellas so even if it’s raining you can duck out for some photos anyway!!
